RRI.CO.ID, Nairobi - Positioning itself as a critical bridge for the Global South, Indonesia has called for accelerated international action in sustainable forestry during the Forest & Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP) All-Member Meeting. Held from March 3–5, 2026, in Kenya, the summit saw Indonesia and Brazil participated as elite observers, providing crucial insight into how tropical nations can lead the fight against global climate change.

The Indonesian delegation, led by Haruni Krisnawati and Ristianto Pribadi from the Ministry of Forestry, utilized the forum to showcase the nation's "FOLU (Forest and Other Land Use) Net Sink 2030" strategy. This ambitious roadmap aims to ensure Indonesia's forestry and land use sectors become a net carbon sink within the next four years, serving as a functional blueprint for other forested nations.

As the 2030 global climate deadlines loom, the Indonesian delegation emphasized that the era of theoretical discussion must give way to mechanical implementation. Krisnawati highlighted that Indonesia's decades of experience in managing vast tropical landscapes are vital for the FCLP’s success.

“With only a few years left toward the 2030 target, countries need to accelerate the implementation of real action in the forestry sector. Indonesia has important experience in tropical forest management, including through the FOLU Net Sink 2030 approach, which can be a contribution to global cooperation,” said Haruni Krisnawati, Expert Staff to the Minister of Forestry for Climate Change, as quoted by the ministry's official website.

Indonesia’s contribution to the summit went beyond carbon sequestration. The delegation presented a comprehensive suite of "best practices" in forest governance, ranging from the Timber Legality Verification System (SVLK) to social forestry programs and advanced fire prevention techniques. A key highlight of the discussion was the potential for wood-based green construction to drive a low-carbon economy.

“Indonesia continues to strengthen sustainable forest management through various strategic policies, including the timber legality verification system (SVLK), social forestry programs, land rehabilitation, and strengthening forest fire prevention efforts. This experience is important to share in global forums like the FCLP,” said Ristianto Pribadi, Head of the Bureau of Public Relations and Foreign Cooperation.

The delegation also pushed for the harmonization of international standards and increased technology transfer to ensure that forestry-based economies remain competitive and sustainable. By asserting its diplomatic presence in Nairobi, Indonesia aims to unlock further international funding and technical partnerships to solidify its role as a global leader in forest conservation and climate resilience. ***
