RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) is urging the acceleration of internet infrastructure development in Frontier, Outermost, and Underdeveloped (3T) regions, including border areas. The initiative aims to reduce the digital divide while expanding access to education and economic opportunities.
“We need to strengthen internet access in 3T areas, including border regions, and ensure that this digital divide is reduced,” Minister AHY said during a dialogue with students in Singkawang, West Kalimantan, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
Equitable distribution of internet access in border areas was the main focus of the discussion.
He emphasized that equitable distribution of digital infrastructure is an important part of aregional development strategy. “With equitable digital access, education can be reached even from remote areas, from places not directly adjacent to education centers,” he said.
Minister AHY explained that strengthening internet networks also opens broader economic opportunities through e-commerce and digital markets. “Digital markets not only penetrate between provinces or regencies and cities, but also across national borders, which is a huge opportunity,” he said.
He added that strengthening digital infrastructure is carried out through cross-ministerial coordination, including with the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, which holds technical and regulatory authority. This collaboration is expected to accelerate equitable connectivity to Indonesia’s outermost regions.
On that occasion, Minister AHY also reminded the younger generation not to remain mere users of technology. “Our youth must also master artificial intelligence (AI) and technology because that is our future,” he said.
According to Minister AHY, strengthening internet infrastructure in 3T areas is not only about technical connectivity. These efforts are part of a broader vision to achieve equitable and balanced economic growth across Indonesia. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
