RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Former Vice President of Indonesia, Try Sutrisno, passed away in Jakarta on Monday, 2 March 2026, at the age of 90. Try Sutrisno’s son, Taufik Dwicahyono, expressed gratitude for the prayers and condolences from all parties and asked for forgiveness if his father had made any mistakes.

"Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un (To God we belong, and to Him we shall return). Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Try Sutrisno, has returned to the presence of Allah – Subhanahu wa Ta'ala (The Most Glorified, The Most High)," Taufik said to reporters on Monday morning.

"By the name of the family, we express our deepest gratitude for your presence, attention, and prayers. We ask that our father be forgiven for any mistakes," he continued.

Taufik said that Try Sutrisno will be taken to his private residence, set as a funeral home, and prayed in a funeral prayer at the Sunda Kelapa Grand Mosque. Try will be laid to rest at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta late afternoon on the same day.

Taufik said that his father had been treated at the Indonesian Army Central Hospital in Central Jakarta since Monday, 16 February 2026. He explained that Try’s passing was due to a decline in health related to old age.

“Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), (my) father did not suffer from a prolonged illness, and so on. It was indeed due to age. So we ask for your prayers,” he said.

Taufik shared that before his passing, Try, who had been active in the Pancasila Ideology Development Agency (BPIP), once stated that he would continue to fight for the nation until the end of his life. Alongside former president Megawati Sukarnoputri as its chair, he served as Deputy Chair of the Steering Committee at the agency, tasked with safeguarding the values of Pancasila in Indonesia’s national life.

“We know that our father always fought for legislative issues, for example, he has various activities. (He) always said, ‘I will continue to fight until I die’. Inshaallah (God willing), that was fulfilled. Until before he fell ill, he remained very active,” he said.

Try Sutrisno was Indonesia’s sixth Vice President, serving alongside President Soeharto in the Sixth Development Cabinet during the New Order era from 1993 to 1998. He was also a military general, having served as Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces from 1988 to 1993.
