Indonesia Safeguards Umrah Pilgrims Amid Middle East Tensions

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: The Indonesian government has outlined protective measures for Umrah pilgrims amid Middle East developments. The update was shared through official social media in Jakarta on Sunday, 1 March 2026.

The policy highlights Indonesia’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia emphasized that pilgrim safety remains the top priority.

The situation in the Middle East has directly affected Saudi Arabia. The impact is particularly felt in the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

Vice Minister of Hajj and Umrah, Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, said coordination continues with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The effort covers pilgrims currently in the Holy Land and those preparing to depart.

He stressed that protection and accurate information are being ensured. He then explained the government’s response to the evolving situation.

The measures focus on safety, coordination, and service guarantees. He detailed the steps taken by the Indonesian government.

“In response to the current developments in the Middle East that directly affect Saudi Arabia, particularly the Holy Cities of Mecca and Medina, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, especially regarding Indonesian Umrah pilgrims who are currently performing their worship in the Holy Land and those who are preparing to depart.” he said.

The Indonesian government advises prospective pilgrims to temporarily postpone departures until conditions improve. Pilgrims in Saudi Arabia are urged to coordinate with Hajj offices and the Indonesian Consulate General. Airlines and hotels are committed to providing accommodation and visa extensions if flights are delayed.

The government also confirmed that preparations for the 2026 Hajj continue as planned. No significant impact has affected organizational readiness so far. Indonesian authorities continue monitoring developments closely.
