Indonesia National Library Strengthens Agricultural Mechanization

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Indonesia’s National Library promoted sustainable agricultural mechanization at the “Transformation of Conventional Agricultural Technology Toward Mechanization” discussion and collection review event in Jakarta, Tuesday, 24 February 2026. The activity was combined with a thematic exhibition on agricultural technology transformation. The program reflects Indonesia’s effort to link knowledge access with agricultural progress.
The event was opened by Deputy for Collection Development and Information Services of Indonesia’s National Library, Suharyanto. It marked collaboration between Perpusnas and the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture.
The partnership involved the Center for Agricultural Library and Literacy as follow-up to the Library Service Program. The forum also formed part of the ninth series of 44 Puspa Pemustaka activities. Puspa Pemustaka stands for Librarians Greeting Library Users. The program connects librarians and users through thematic knowledge sharing.
In his remarks, Suharyanto affirmed that sustainable agricultural transformation relies on knowledge support. He highlighted literacy and information access as strategic factors for innovation. He also noted Indonesia’s growing digital connectivity as a major opportunity.
“Literacy and access to knowledge are strategic factors in realizing sustainable agricultural technology innovation,” he said.
He explained that mechanization requires systematic, documented, and accessible knowledge transfer. He stated that 230 million Indonesians are connected to the internet. According to him, this condition opens broad opportunities to strengthen agricultural information ecosystems.

Currently, the library holds 12,241 book titles on agriculture and 452 special collection titles on agricultural technology. He said this shows agriculture’s importance in national collection development and nation building. He stressed that collections will not be meaningful without proper management and optimal utilization.
Head of the Center for Agricultural Library and Literacy, Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture, Eko Nugroho Dharmo Putro, stressed the importance of agricultural literacy. He said collaboration provides needed information for field extension workers to apply the latest technology and literacy.
He added that this supports the second Asta Cita of the President and Vice President, food self-sufficiency.
