RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has called on Muslims to observe Ramadan 1447 Hijri, corresponding to 2026, as a moment to strengthen social devotion and national harmony. The appeal was delivered in Jakarta, Wednesday, 18 February 2026, amid preparations for the start of the holy month.

Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasruddin Umar, stated Ramadan must produce not only personal spiritual growth, but also broader social impact. He emphasized that the fasting month must reinforce solidarity and national fraternity within Indonesia’s diverse society.

“Ramadan is a moment to strengthen social piety and nurture national harmony. It is not merely an individual act of worship, but a spiritual school that shapes our empathy and responsibility as part of the Indonesian nation,” he said.

The minister also added that fasting teaches self-restraint and balanced living, values he described as essential for building a fair and sustainable society. “Ramadan reminds us that life is not about satisfying every desire, but about living in balance. Self-control is the foundation of sustainability for a dignified nation,” he said.

Addressing differences in determining the start of Ramadan this year, Nasruddin urged the public to respond with maturity and unity. He said such differences are a natural part of Indonesia’s pluralistic identity.

“Let differences be a blessing, not a barrier. Do not allow variations in calculation to weaken our bonds. It is within diversity that our tolerance is tested and strengthened,” he said.

He also encouraged Muslims to uphold social harmony and expand charitable initiatives during the holy month. The minister cited the example of the Prophet Muhammad, who was known for his generosity, particularly during Ramadan.

In addition, Nasruddin expressed hope that Ramadan would inspire individuals who are not only personally devout but also socially responsible citizens. “On behalf of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, I wish you a blessed Ramadan. May God accept our worship and grant blessings to our beloved Indonesia,” he said.
