RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has launched the National Movement for the Development of Green and Blue Public Spaces (GALANG RTHB), marking the start of a coordinated effort to expand and revitalize public open spaces nationwide.
Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya said the initiative aims to strengthen the sustainable development of public spaces while supporting retail and community-based economic activities. He said green and blue public spaces have strong potential to function as creative hubs for local communities.
“This approach allows public spaces to be activated by facilitating communities, especially creative communities,” Riefky said during the town hall meeting and launch of GALANG RTHB at Tebet Eco Park in Jakarta on February 13, 2026.
He said such spaces could host various activities, including workshops, public dialogues, festivals and performances.
Coordinating Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, widely known as AHY, stressed the importance of adequate public facilities and open spaces as centers of productivity and drivers of regional creative economies.
He said well-managed public spaces could help stimulate local economic activity and create jobs, including opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). “The working principle of GALANG RTHB is collaboration. We must work together and coordinate, not merely participate,” AHY said.
He added that the initiative forms part of Indonesia’s Safe, Healthy, Resilient and Beautiful (ASRI) National Movement, which seeks to promote an urban development model that prioritizes infrastructure supporting quality of life. ***
