RRI.CO.ID, Pasuruan - The first mini LNG plant on Java Island has officially begun operations. The facility is operated by PT Liquid Nusantara Gas in East Java.
The inauguration was led by Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot. The event took place at Pasuruan Industrial Estate Rembang, East Java on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.
The plant is expected to strengthen domestic natural gas utilization. It also supports national energy resilience through flexible LNG distribution.
Indonesia’s natural gas distribution no longer depends solely on pipeline networks. Mini LNG technology enables broader access for industries and power plants.
“This inauguration of PT Liquid Nusantara Gas mini LNG refinery marks the first LNG plant on Java Island,” Yuliot said. He called it momentum to maximize domestic gas for industries and electricity generation.
As quoted by https://www.esdm.go.id , the website of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources , the facility utilizes gas supply from Madura Strait Working Area. The block is managed by Husky-CNOOC Madura Limited (HCML).
The processed gas is converted into Liquefied Natural Gas. This method makes distribution more practical and efficient nationwide.
The project required an investment of approximately Rp247 billion. Production capacity reaches around 20 tons of LNG per day.
The project highlights significant domestic industrial participation. Local component content reportedly reached approximately 86 percent.
On a one hectare site, modular cryobox units are installed. Three Galileo Technologies machines will later expand into five units.
Cryobox technology applies Nano LNG Liquefaction principles. The modular system allows rapid installation and operational flexibility.
The inauguration was also attended by Argentina Ambassador to Indonesia, Gustavo Ricardo Coppa who emphasized technological collaboration. He stated the project strengthens energy resilience and clean fuel development.
