RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, reiterated the government’s commitment to revitalizing the historic Keraton Surakarta during a cultural performance titled "Tribute to National Heritage of Keraton Surakarta". The event was held at Tribrata Darmawangsa, Jakarta, on 8 February 2026.
The performance was organized as part of a broader effort to preserve one of Indonesia’s most significant royal cultural institutions. It highlighted how cultural heritage can remain relevant through creative presentation and public engagement.
Speaking at the event, Fadli described Keraton Kasunanan Hadiningrat as a vital pillar of Indonesia’s cultural ecosystem. He emphasized that preservation must go beyond mere symbolism and be supported by sustainable revitalization programs.
“The Keraton is not only a historical symbol, but also a living cultural legacy that must be protected for future generations,” Fadli said. He noted that the government has carried out restoration works, including the revitalization of key pavilions and the gradual improvement of the palace museum.
According to the minister, safeguarding cultural heritage requires collaboration between the central government, regional authorities, communities, and private partners. Such cooperation, he said, is essential to ensure the long-term sustainability of historic sites.
Fadli also underlined the potential of Keraton Surakarta to develop into a major cultural tourism destination. He said this approach could strengthen Indonesia’s cultural economy while creating economic benefits for local communities.
Representatives of cultural foundations involved in the event said the performance aimed to introduce Keraton Surakarta to wider national and international audiences. They stressed the importance of positioning the palace as part of Indonesia’s collective heritage.
For international observers, the initiative reflects Indonesia’s strategy to integrate heritage preservation with tourism and creative industries. The government hopes these efforts will reinforce culture as a driver of inclusive development while maintaining historical continuity.
