RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta:  Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) Indonesia held groundbreaking ceremonies for six downstream projects in 13 locations across Indonesia, worth a total of USD 7 billion. The projects are part of a plan to strengthen the real sector, boost domestic industries, create jobs, encourage sustainable economic growth, and directly employ more than 6,000 people.

The inauguration marks the start of implementing phase I priority downstream projects. These projects are managed across sectors, including energy, food, minerals, and metals. The goal is to strengthen the national industrial structure and reduce dependence on imports.

Danantara Indonesia CEO Rosan Roeslani emphasized that the downstream program is a strategic agenda prioritized by the President of Indonesia and one of Danantara Indonesia's main focuses in driving national economic transformation.

"The initial phase of the projects will have a positive economic impact on Indonesia through industrial added value and employment. The downstream projects will be crucial to stronger, sustainable, and competitive economic growth, with collaboration between the government, state-owned enterprises, and strategic partners," Rosan said on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

MIND ID and its members, INALUM and ANTAM, inaugurated a bauxite-alumina-aluminum processing and refining facility in Mempawah, West Kalimantan. The facility includes a new aluminum smelter with an annual production capacity of 600,000 metric tons of aluminum and a Phase II Smelter-Grade Alumina Refinery with an annual production capacity of 1 million metric tons of alumina.

The project aims to support Indonesia's mineral security program and ensure a steady supply of raw materials for the domestic manufacturing sector as part of efforts to strengthen the national industrial value chain.

Through this national strategic project, MIND ID is increasing the added value of bauxite to alumina and aluminum by 70-fold. Based on the current USD 40 per metric ton price of raw bauxite, this increase is significant: to USD 400 per metric ton after processing into alumina, and to USD 2,800–3,000 per metric ton after processing into aluminum.

MIND ID President Director Maroef Sjamsoeddin said that the project will bolster Indonesia's domestic aluminum production capabilities and demonstrate its growing ability to reduce dependence on aluminum imports.

He added that the facility's presence will reduce dependence on imports and impact foreign exchange reserves. Once operational, the new aluminum smelter is expected to increase foreign exchange reserves by 394 percent, from IDR 11 trillion to IDR 52 trillion per year. Furthermore, manufacturing industry players will have guaranteed access to domestic raw materials.

"This project represents the MIND ID Group's contribution to creating added value domestically, strengthening the economy, and strengthening state sovereignty in the mineral sector for Indonesia's future civilization," said Maroef.

The Governor of West Kalimantan, Commission XII members, the Regent of Mempawah, the Dayak Traditional Council, and the Board of Directors and Commissioners of MIND ID, ANTAM, Bukit Asam, INALUM, and PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia also attended the inauguration.

These downstream projects align with the President of Indonesia's directive to strengthen the real sector, increase the added value of domestic resources, and develop competitive and sustainable industries. Danantara Indonesia and state-owned enterprises (BUMN) ensure that priority projects are implemented on time and provide tangible economic impact. (Misni Parjiati/Bambang MBKA)
