Prabowo and National Figures Reaffirms Foreign Policy Direction

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with foreign policy figures and academics at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 February 2026.  Foreign Minister, Sugiono who accompanied the President, said the meeting involved international relations observers, diplomacy activists, former foreign ministers and deputy ministers, academicians, practitioners, as well as leaders and members of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives.

"The meeting was to explain, then discuss, and also convey the directions of foreign policy, where he, as head of state and government, holds full sovereignty as the determinant of Indonesia's foreign policy and direction," Minister Sugiono conveyed.

According to the Foreign Minister, the meeting took place openly thru a two-way discussion between the President and the figures, who exchanged views to build mutual understanding. The Foreign Minister added that various inputs were also provided by the figures to strengthen the policy direction currently being formulated by the government.

"Each of the figures who spoke earlier also shared their views, their thoughts, and their considerations, which I think essentially align and are already part of the same considerations and thinking. Therefore, the discussion that took place, in my opinion, was mutually reinforcing," he said.

"I don't see the pros and cons, but of course, from one thing, there are different perspectives being discussed, and ultimately, everything, especially regarding foreign policy, is seen as one and the same," the Foreign Minister said.

In the future, the Foreign Minister stated that similar meetings would be developed into a regular agenda. This step is expected to align frequencies and strengthen mutual understanding regarding the government's policy direction, particularly in foreign policy.

"As per the instructions given earlier to make this event a routine agenda, so that a common understanding or frequency can be achieved regarding the direction and policies of the government led by Mr. President, especially concerning the direction and policies of foreign policy," he said.

To all the dignitaries present, Foreign Minister Sugiono also expressed his appreciation and gratitude for their active participation in the meeting. "I would like to thank all the invitees who were willing to attend President Bapak's invitation this afternoon and evening," the Minister stated.
