RRI.CO.ID, Tapanuli Selatan – Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, stated that the government is focusing on accelerating the provision of about 19,000 families through House Waiting Funds (DTH). He made the statement in the “Inauguration of Temporary Housing in Three Provinces Following the Sumatra Flood and Landslide Disaster” event at South Tapanuli, North Sumatra, on Thursday, 5 February 2026.
Minister Tito hopes that with the Ramadhan just two weeks away, the provision for families with slightly damaged houses and moderately damaged houses has been distributed.
“We hope that once the budget from the Ministry of Finance has been distributed, those with slightly and moderately damaged houses, 15 million, 30 million, really hope that before Ramadan, the refugee tents will no longer be there,” he said.
The Housing Waiting Fund is given as a way for refugees to not live in tents anymore while waiting for more temporary housing units to be built. He also made sure that the construction will continue.
“While temporary houses continue to be built, hopefully this can ease the burden on our affected communities. And we all pray that these affected areas will quickly return to normal,” he stated.

In the event, 1,300 units of temporary housing have been completed across Sumatra and inaugurated on the same day. The distributions are spread across East Aceh (308 units), Pidie Jaya (410 units), South Tapanuli Regency (250 units), Central Tapanuli (112 units) in North Sumatra, North Aceh (84 units), Aceh Tamiang (58 units), North Tapanuli (40 units), as well as Tanah Datar in West Sumatra (38 units).
Through this, refugee numbers have been reduced by as many as 106,000 people. Minister Tito made sure that basic necessities for living have been fulfilled, such as electricity, internet, water, gas, and roads. He noted that 27 of the 52 districts affected by disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra have returned to normal.
