RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Minister of Communications and Digital, Meutya Hafid, underscored that the speed and accuracy of public communication are now determining factors in preventing the spread of disinformation in the digital space. The government, he said, no longer has room to be late in delivering the official narrative when the flow of information is moving so quickly and massively.

He stated this at the Government Public Relations (GPR) Outlook 2026 Forum in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, which was attended by heads of public relations bureaus from ministries/agencies, state-owned enterprises (BUMNs), regional-owned enterprises (BUMDs), and representatives from local governments.

Now we no longer have the luxury of choosing between fast or accurate. Both must go hand in hand. "If we are not quick, the space will be filled with disinformation, and ultimately the information reaching the public will be inaccurate," the minister stated.

According to him, the government's public communication challenges are becoming increasingly difficult due to the massive competition of content on social media. She said that the success of public communication is not measured by how neat or beautiful the message is arranged, but by what truly reaches and is understood by the public.

"The measure of public relation success isn't what we write, but what reaches the public. If accurate information is drowned out by disinformation, that's also wrong," she said.

Meutya also emphasized that public communication is no longer just a supporting function, but an integral part of state leadership. The government's reputation and the success of national programs, he said, are heavily influenced by the consistency of the state's voice in the public sphere, which is managed by public relations departments in every ministry and agency.

In addition, the minister also highlighted the importance of synergy and networking between institutions in addressing disinformation, including through data sharing, mutual reinforcement of news coverage, and coordinated cross-sectoral responses. She believes that disinformation currently operates in a networked manner, making it impossible to tackle it individually.

If disinformation works collectively, then government public relations must also network. "Collaboration is far more relevant than competition in the digital era," she conveyed.

Furthermore, Mutya also mentioned the importance of data strengthening as the foundation for rapid and accurate public communication. Data consolidation within ministries and agencies is considered a prerequisite for public relations to be able to respond swiftly to strategic issues.

In addition, she also invited all government public relations personnel to continue maintaining cohesion, strengthening internal and inter-agency coordination, and conveying government policies in diverse styles but with the same goal.
