RRI.CO.ID, Sentul – President Prabowo Subianto affirmed the government's commitment to seriously and integrally addressing the national waste problem. This was stated at the National Coordination Meeting of the Central and Regional Governments in 2026, held in Sentul on Monday, 2 February 2026.

The President announced plans to launch the Indonesia ASRI (safe, healthy, clean, beautiful) Movement as a national initiative to create a clean environment. He asked government officials not to hesitate to directly lead cleanliness drives in their respective areas on a regular basis.

"In the near future, I will launch the Indonesia ASRI movement: safe, healthy, clean, and beautiful," President Prabowo stated before the meeting participants. He emphasized that the term 'Resik' has a significant meaning that encompasses both cleanliness and the orderliness of the residential environment.

The President reminded that Indonesia is currently racing against time before a national waste crisis erupts. He warned that the majority of landfills in the country are predicted to be overloaded by 2028.

"This waste is becoming a problem, with almost all landfills projected to reach overcapacity by 2028," Prabowo said. He did not want this issue to drag on and become a breeding ground for disease and disaster that would harm the wider community.

As a concrete step, the government will immediately accelerate the construction of 34 waste-to-energy processing facilities in various major cities. This program is a technological solution to eliminate waste while also generating more beneficial renewable energy sources.

The President also highlighted the dirty environmental conditions, which were considered very damaging to Indonesia's tourism image in the eyes of the world. He assessed that the creative economy would be difficult to advance if the tourist areas still looked dirty and disorganized.

On the other hand, the President launched the idea of "gentengisasi" to replace the zinc roofs that were starting to look shabby in the settlements. The use of zinc is considered to make home occupants feel hot and damage the aesthetics of the environment due to its highly corrosive nature.

"Indonesia rising must be beautiful, it's impossible for Indonesia to be beautiful if all the roof tiles are made of corrugated iron," he said firmly. He wants to eliminate the rusty appearance of public housing, which is often considered a symbol of a nation's backwardness.
