RRI.CO.ID, Bandung - Indonesia, is stepping up its economic diplomacy in the semiconductor sector by prioritizing international partnerships to accelerate the development of its domestic industry.

Vice Foreign Minister Arif Havas Oegroseno delivered the message while opening the Indonesia Semiconductor Summit (ISS) 2026 at the ITB Innovation Park in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday, January 29, 2026. The forum was organized by the Indonesia Chip Design Collaborative Center (ICDeC).

“Indonesia needs to build strategic alliances with global and regional partners to accelerate the development of the national semiconductor industry,” Havas said. He added that such cooperation is crucial for facilitating technology transfer and securing Indonesia’s position on the global technology map.

Havas noted that ISS 2026 is Indonesia’s first international forum dedicated to semiconductors and expressed hope that it would help forge strategic alliances among domestic stakeholders to accelerate the development of the national semiconductor ecosystem.

The summit also highlighted Indonesia’s market potential. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said Indonesia ranks first in Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) in ASEAN, giving it a large domestic market for semiconductor-based products, particularly smartphones and electric vehicles.

In his keynote address, Minister Agus outlined the government’s strategy to support the sector, including the development of silica smelter infrastructure to ensure raw material independence and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global value chain.

ISS 2026 brought together semiconductor stakeholders from government, the private sector, and academia, with speakers and participants from both Indonesia and abroad.

International participants included representatives from Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, Malaysia, Japan, and the Asian Development Bank.

The first day of the summit featured policy discussions and presentations, while the second day focused on workshops to build the semiconductor ecosystem, with an emphasis on technology transfer, human resource development, and strengthening industrial supply chains. The forum marks a concrete step in Indonesia’s efforts to develop its semiconductor industry through collaboration and ecosystem building. (Naura Sofia/Lasti Martina)
