RRI.CO.ID, East Aceh – Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto visited East Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, Thursday, 29 January 2026. His coming is to ensure the acceleration of post-disaster recovery following hydrometeorological disasters, particularly in the education sector and the provision of housing for affected residents.
During the visit, he affirmed that post-disaster recovery should not only focus on physical reconstruction, but also on the continuity of teaching and learning activities and the fulfilment of basic community needs. “Recovery must address the real needs of the community, including ensuring that children can return to school and residents have decent housing,” Suharyanto stated in East Aceh on Thursday.
The agenda began with an inspection of Blang Senong State Elementary School in Meunasah Teungoh Village, Pante Bidari Sub-district, which had previously been affected by mud inundation due to heavy rainfall. BNPB ensured that the school building had been cleaned and structurally inspected to ensure it is safe for use.
Suharyanto stated that teaching and learning activities have resumed, although they are still being conducted under emergency tents. The central government, through the Ministry of Public Works in coordination with the Indonesian Military (TNI), will continue the cleaning and repair of damaged school buildings, while the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education will support the recovery of educational facilities.
“The school building will be repaired after the cleaning of mud and debris is completed,” he said.
The Head of BNPB then symbolically handed over the keys to temporary housing units as well as Housing Waiting Assistance Funds (DTH) to affected residents in Pante Rambong Village, Pante Bidari Sub-district. In the area, the construction of 1,451 temporary housing units is planned, with 102 units already completed and handed over to residents.
According to Suharyanto, local communities chose in-situ temporary housing construction, or rebuilding at their original residential locations, which are considered safe from potential subsequent disasters.
In addition to temporary housing, BNPB has also distributed DTH to residents who chose to temporarily live in rented houses or stay with relatives. To date, a total of 294 DTH accounts worth Rp1.8 million per month have been disbursed out of 400 beneficiaries determined by the East Aceh Regency Government.
The DTH will be provided until permanent housing is completed. If permanent housing has not been completed within three months, BNPB will continue the distribution of the assistance.
After East Aceh, Suharyanto continued his working visit to North Aceh Regency to inspect the construction of a bridge in Sawang Village that was previously cut off due to flooding, and to ensure that the construction of temporary housing in the area proceeds according to target before the month of Ramadan 2026.
