RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital is encouraging the advancement of semiconductor products to create added value and open new economic opportunities. Deputy Minister Nezar Patria conveyed this during a meeting with PT Sat Nusapersada Tbk on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
Nezar stated that Indonesia must swiftly integrate into the global semiconductor supply chain, noting that such participation would enhance the country’s bargaining power in the global technology industry.
He explained that the government is preparing the national technology sector to move beyond assembly, describing this as a strategic and realistic step that Indonesia can pursue in the near future.
“We must first enter the global supply chain. In strategic components, Indonesia must have a presence. From there, our bargaining position will grow,” Nezar said in an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
The Deputy Minister further highlighted Indonesia’s strong initial advantage in its natural resources, particularly its reserves of silica sand, the raw material for silicon wafers, an essential component in semiconductor chip production.
Nezar noted that the rapid growth of the artificial intelligence industry has significantly increased global demand for silicon wafers. He added that the ongoing chip shortage presents a major opportunity for resource-rich countries like Indonesia.
“Demand for silicon wafers is extremely high due to the fast-paced development of AI. This is a rare momentum that must be seized,” he stressed. (Gusti Panji/Editor)
