Synergy Between Diktisaintek and BPOM Boosts Pharmaceutical Self-Reliance

RRI.CO.ID , Jakarta - The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Brian Yuliarto, made remarks on national pharmaceutical self-reliance. The remarks were delivered during the 25th Anniversary of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

The minister stated that BPOM plays a role in supervising the pharmaceutical and food sectors in Indonesia. He mentioned the scope of industries under BPOM’s supervision.

In his remarks, Minister Brian highlighted the need for innovation and creativity in the pharmaceutical sector. “Self-reliance in pharmaceuticals, in particular, is truly expected to be realized,” Brian Yuliarto said.

Brian Yuliarto explained that the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Diktisaintek) has universities, lecturers, and researchers. He noted that these resources can cooperate with BPOM and industry players.

According to him, the cooperation includes research, development, and downstreaming of pharmaceutical and food products. He added that the cooperation is carried out through strengthening the national research ecosystem.

The minister also mentioned the involvement of industry in the development of research-based products. He said industry is part of the product development process.

In his statement, Minister Brian conveyed a target to strengthen national products. “We will see how our nation can have flagship products to replace imported products,” Brian Yuliarto said.

The minister emphasized that synergy among the ministry, BPOM, and industry players is being pursued. “Hopefully, this synergy will serve as a real contribution to strengthening the national research and innovation ecosystem that has an impact on the Indonesian nation,” he said.
