RRI.CO.ID, Pasuruan - The Indonesian Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) is intensifying support for the national food industry to expand access to global markets.
BPOM is working to ensure Indonesian products meet international safety and quality standards through mentoring, science‑based regulations, and digitalized supervision, thereby enhancing competitiveness.
“The food industry will face complex challenges, including technological developments, digitalization, shifting consumer preferences, and global market demands. This requires synergy so products meet national standards and remain competitive globally,” BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar said during a visit to PT Amerta Indah Otsuka’s (PT AIO) production facility in Pasuruan on Thursday, July 9, 2026, as quoted on BPOM’s official website.
He emphasized that product safety, quality, and innovation form the foundation for expanding the competitiveness of Indonesian food in international markets.
To facilitate exports, BPOM issues Export Certificates and collaborates strategically with industry by applying science‑based regulations, a risk‑based approach, and digital systems. The goal is to create a business climate that is conducive, transparent, and adaptive.
PT Amerta Indah Otsuka (PT AIO), a food and beverage company best known for producing Pocari Sweat and Soyjoy, has benefited from this support. The company now exports its products to the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and India.
During his visit, Taruna reviewed PT AIO’s food safety and quality assurance systems. Monitoring results showed the facility complies with food safety, quality, and labeling regulations and has implemented a robust risk management program.
Taruna encouraged PT AIO to continue expanding its export market while maintaining product quality and safety. “We hope the Risk Management Program runs smoothly. Product capacity and quality must be maintained so our products are enjoyed and appreciated by the public,” he said.
PT AIO President Director Makoto Ikemoto expressed appreciation for BPOM’s support, which he considers crucial for industrial development. “We always need support and collaboration from BPOM. Please continue to support us so we can contribute to the health of the Indonesian public,” Makoto said.
PT AIO President Commissioner Roy Sparringa echoed this view, noting BPOM’s openness to collaboration. “BPOM’s network is expanding. BPOM is open to meeting and synergizing with many parties. We are grateful for that,” he said.
BPOM’s visit also included a tree‑planting activity at PT AIO’s facility, symbolizing joint efforts to ensure safe and high‑quality food products while maintaining environmental sustainability.
The event was attended by BPOM’s senior officials, including Secretary General Jayadi, Deputy for Processed Food Supervision Elin Herlina, and Deputy for Traditional Medicine, Health Supplements, and Cosmetics Supervision Mohamad Kashuri.
Taruna reaffirmed BPOM’s commitment to accompany the industry not only as a regulator but also as a strategic partner.
“BPOM will continue to support industry through science‑based regulation, risk‑based approaches, and digitalized supervision to create a business climate that is conducive, transparent, and adaptive,” he said. ***
