RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has inaugurated members of the National Energy Council (DEN) at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. The inauguration was carried out pursuant to Presidential Decree (Keppres) No. 134P of 2026 on the Appointment of DEN Members from Stakeholders and Presidential Decree No. 6P of 2026 on the Appointment of DEN Members from the Government.

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, one of the newly inaugurated members, affirmed the readiness of the agricultural sector to serve as a key pillar in the development of national green energy. He stated that the development of green energy based on local resources could support national energy security and the energy transition.

“God willing, going forward we will leverage green energy from the agricultural sector. The potential is enormous, such as cassava, palm oil (CPO), sugarcane, and various other commodities,” Minister Amran said after the inauguration ceremony at the State Palace on Wednesday, as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to Amran, Indonesia’s status as an agrarian country gives it strong potential to become a major driver in the development of renewable energy based on biofuels. He believes agricultural commodities can meet energy needs while also promoting energy independence.

He further explained that the government will encourage cassava as a new alternative energy source with significant potential. Palm oil and sugarcane, he noted, have already become two national biofuel sources. Minister Amran expressed optimism that Indonesia could significantly reduce diesel imports in line with the mandatory biodiesel policy, including the implementation of B50.

“Palm oil and sugarcane are already in production. Next, we will push cassava. This is our immense potential,” he said. “God willing, based on the results of coordination, this year we will no longer import diesel as we move into B50,” he added.

The National Energy Council is a national body established by the state to formulate and coordinate Indonesia’s energy policy in a comprehensive and long-term manner. Based on the membership list, representatives from the government include Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa; Minister of National Development Planning Rachmat Pambudy; Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi; Minister of Industry Gumiwang Kartasasmita; Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman; Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto; and Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
