RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The President has officially inaugurated the members of the National Energy Council (DEN), which comprises representatives from both the government and key stakeholders. Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that the government, through the Council, is actively pursuing the goal of energy self-sufficiency.

In a doorstop interview at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Minister told the media that this initiative follows the government's success in achieving food self-sufficiency over the past year.

“Having successfully achieved food self-sufficiency within a year—particularly regarding rice—we are now focused on our next objective: working diligently to achieve energy self-sufficiency,” Hadi stated.

To realize this ambition, Hadi explained that the primary strategy involves increasing domestic oil production to reduce reliance on imports. Additionally, the government is promoting energy diversification by accelerating the adoption of renewable energy sources.

“Our first priority is to increase oil production. Second, we aim to transition our energy needs toward alternative sources, such as biofuels and biodiesel,” he added.

Finally, Hadi emphasized that there must be a balance between rising domestic energy demand and national production capacity in the long term. This necessity is why the National Energy Council's operations must be fast-tracked to ensure a stable energy supply for the public.

The National Energy Council includes eight ministers, with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia serving as Executive Chairman. Alongside the government officials, eight members from various stakeholder groups have also been appointed to strengthen the Council’s leadership.
