RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Save the Children Indonesia to support the implementation of Regulation of the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Number 6 of 2026 on Safe and Comfortable School Culture. The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in fostering safe and comfortable school environments while ensuring the protection of children’s rights.
As reported on the ministry’s official Instagram account on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive Officer of Save the Children Indonesia, Dessy Kurwiany, explained that the collaboration with the ministry is part of the organization’s long-term commitment to supporting child protection in educational settings. According to her, this makes the ministry a strategic partner for Save the Children in implementing its programs.
“The ministry is our strategic partner in implementing Save the Children’s programs. Supporting safe and comfortable school initiatives is certainly in line with our vision to ensure that children’s rights are fulfilled especially their rights in the fields of education and protection for children anytime and anywhere,” Dessy stated.
She added that efforts to create safe and comfortable schools cannot be carried out by schools alone. The roles of parents, the community, and communities around schools are considered crucial in creating a positive educational ecosystem.
“Creating safe and comfortable schools is not sufficient if it only involves schools. The role of parents and the role of the community or communities around schools including parent communities and parent–student communities within schools, which usually exist in every school must be optimally demonstrated,” she conveyed.
The MoU covers the enhancement and development of human resource competencies, dissemination and education of priority education programs, development of teaching tools, improvement of literacy and numeracy, strengthening of students’ character, development of educational books, and the utilization of educational facilities and infrastructure. As a follow-up to this agreement, the ministry and Save the Children Indonesia are implementing the KREASI Program (Collaboration for Indonesian Children’s Education), which runs from 1 October 2024, to 30 June 2028.
The program is supported by funding from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and will be implemented in four provinces and eight regencies. The program targets 560 educational institutions, ranging from kindergartens and Islamic Kindergartens (Raudhatul Athfal/RA) to elementary schools (SD) and Islamic Elementary Schools (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah/MI).
