RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has confirmed its participation in the Peace Council proposed by the United States under a self-funded scheme. The policy reflects Indonesia’s commitment to contributing to international peace efforts independently.

Minister of Defense, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin made the statement after a closed-door working meeting with Commission I of the House of Representatives in Jakarta, Monday, 26 January 2026. He emphasized that Indonesia will not rely on external funding for its involvement.

According to the minister, the Indonesian Military (TNI) will optimize existing capabilities in preparing troops for the Peace Council mission. Military readiness remains the main focus in supporting the deployment process.

“This involvement is self-funded, and we prioritize our existing capabilities to prepare our troops,” Sjafrie stated. He added that the TNI commander has already presented one brigade as part of the preparation plan.

Sjafrie further stated that Indonesia plans to deploy one battalion to the Peace Council. He also revealed that 50 personnel have already been sent earlier as an advance team.

Meanwhile, regarding the issue of Indonesia’s membership contribution, the minister said the government is still waiting for a decision from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There has been no official discussion so far on the amount of fees or financial contributions required.

The Peace Council is expected to support post-conflict stabilization and peace-building efforts in Gaza. Indonesia sees the initiative as a complementary platform alongside existing international peace mechanisms.
