RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development held a Town Hall Meeting titled "Accelerating Transportation Decarbonization" as a concrete effort to expedite the reduction of carbon emissions in the transportation sector, Monday, 27 January 2026. This step is taken to ensure Indonesia can achieve its Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060.
The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), underscored that the government's current decarbonization policy is a manifestation of the nation's integrity and moral responsibility in fulfilling international commitments following the ratification of the Paris Agreement.
"Indonesia truly wants to prove its moral responsibility as one of the countries that has ratified the Paris Agreement. And this is something we must also oversee together so that the net-zero emissions target for 2060 can truly be achieved," Minister Agus stated.
As a concrete follow-up, the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure is currently accelerating the completion of strategic documents that will serve as a compass or roadmap for the energy transition in the transportation sector. This document is expected to serve as a reference for all stakeholders in implementing environmentally friendly programs.
Minister Agus said that they have set a target time for completing the document so it can be published and implemented soon. The final product of this decarbonization roadmap is projected to be completed by next May.
"We have a timeline for May, and we hope to have a final product related to this transportation decarbonization roadmap that we can present for various purposes both domestically and internationally," Agus stated.
Moreover, the Minister affirmed that the document currently being finalized holds strategic value in Indonesia's climate diplomacy on the global stage. The goal is that the results of this hard work will be important substance for the Indonesian delegation at the high-level climate conference.
"Hopefully, what we complete by May will also be good material to bring to COP 31 in Antalya, Turkey, next November," he said.
This Town Hall Meeting activity is organized as a platform to gather input from various parties, ranging from ministries, institutions, business entities, to the private sector. This synergy is considered crucial given that the challenges of decarbonization require strong cross-sectoral collaboration to accelerate the implementation of green transportation in Indonesia.
