Government Inaugurates 273 Temporary Shelters in West Sumatra

RRI.CO.ID, West Sumatra - The Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, inaugurated temporary housing for disaster-affected communities in West Sumatra Province on Saturday, 25 January 2026. The inauguration is part of the government's coordinated efforts to accelerate post-disaster recovery.

In this activity, Pratikno was accompanied by Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian and Head of the National Disaster Management Agency, Suharyanto. The simultaneous inauguration of the temporary shelters was held in four districts: Agam, Padang Pariaman, Lima Puluh Kota, and Pesisir Selatan.

The main inauguration location was centered at the Kayu Pasak Temporary Shelter in Palembayan District, Agam Regency. The inaugurations in the other three districts were conducted online from each temporary shelter location.

The construction of this temporary housing is part of meeting the basic needs of disaster-affected communities, particularly the provision of safe and suitable temporary shelter. Based on collected data, a total of 4,742 homes in West Sumatra Province were severely damaged due to the disaster.

On that occasion, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, along with the Minister of Home Affairs and the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency, symbolically handed over the keys to temporary housing to representatives of the beneficiaries. Overall, a total of 273 temporary shelters have been built and are distributed across four districts in West Sumatra Province.

Additionally, a symbolic handover of the Housing Waiting Fund (DTH) was also carried out to the affected community. The inauguration was marked by the cutting of a ribbon, symbolizing that the temporary housing was ready for occupancy.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno stated that post-disaster management is carried out in a coordinated and sustainable manner through synergy across ministries, agencies, and local governments.

The provision of temporary housing is part of the post-disaster recovery efforts that must be carried out quickly, in a coordinated, and sustainable manner. "The government ensures that the basic needs of the affected community, especially safe and decent housing, can be met immediately," Pratikno stated.

Meanwhile, BNPB Head Suharyanto stated that the construction of temporary shelters is one of the priorities during the transition from emergency response to the recovery phase. In addition to building temporary shelters, the government is also accelerating the distribution of Housing Waiting Funds.

To date, a total of 2,279 households have been proposed as recipients of DTH, with 1,867 accounts prepared and 1,393 DTH distributed to affected communities. Going forward, the government will continue to provide assistance and monitoring to ensure that the construction of temporary housing and the distribution of the Housing Waiting Fund in West Sumatra Province proceed optimally and reach the intended beneficiaries.
