RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) delivered initial aid following a 6.7-magnitude earthquake in Central Sulawesi. The update was presented in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

The earthquake struck Central Sulawesi on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, affecting several areas across the province. The agency immediately mobilized assistance for communities impacted by the disaster.

The information was delivered during the Press Conference on Post-Earthquake Conditions and Response in Central Sulawesi. Head of BNPB's Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, outlined ongoing relief efforts.

The Indonesian government prioritized assistance for residents whose homes suffered severe damage. Aid was sent mainly to Sigi and Poso Regencies, which experienced significant earthquake impacts.

Muhari explained the emergency shelters prepared for affected communities and essential public services. He detailed the support provided during the early response phase.

“We brought three evacuation tents to support hospitals, government offices, and command posts. We also brought 50 family tents. These are prioritized for our brothers and sisters whose homes suffered severe damage,” he said.

In addition to family tents, the agency prepared basic relief supplies for affected residents. The assistance includes food packages, mattresses, blankets, and folding beds.

Muhari also urged communities to remain calm and stay alert for possible aftershocks. He reminded residents to rely only on verified information.

“We continue to urge the public to remain calm, avoid cracked or damaged buildings, and not be influenced by issues whose accuracy cannot yet be confirmed,” he added.

Besides emergency aid, the Indonesian government prepared housing assistance for affected families. Support includes Rp15 million for minor damage, Rp30 million for moderate damage, and Rp60 million for severely damaged homes or reconstruction.
