RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is prioritizing the development of fishermen’s villages across the country, with plans to build around 100 villages.
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said the initiative is a concrete step by President Prabowo Subianto’s administration to improve the livelihoods of Indonesian fishermen.
“It may be completed in the near future,” Minister Prasetyo said at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
He explained that the government is also preparing supporting infrastructure as part of efforts to modernize fishermen’s villages. This includes the provision of cold storage facilities, docks, and gas stations dedicated to fishermen.
“We will build docks in areas that do not have them, and cold storage for fishermen who lack access to it. These facilities will be constructed as part of a package that includes cold storage,” he said.
In addition, the government is working to sustain fishermen’s livelihoods by providing fishing boats. This program is part of Indonesia’s cooperation with the United Kingdom, which carries a committed investment value of IDR 90 trillion (USD 5.35 billion).
“The cooperation in constructing fishing vessels involves approximately 1,500 boats. We hope this will increase fishermen’s income and catches, while also improving the nation’s protein intake,” Minister Prasetyo said. (Gusti Panji/Lasti Martina)
