RRI.CO.ID, Lombok – President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated five dams across four provinces on Friday, July 10, 2026, marking a major step in strengthening Indonesia’s food security and long-term economic growth.
The projects represent a state investment of approximately IDR 9.79 trillion and are projected to support the production of up to 1 million tons of rice when optimized with modern agricultural technology and superior seeds.
The inauguration ceremony was centered at the Meninting Dam in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, and also included the Rukoh Dam in Pidie, Aceh; the Keureutoe Dam in North Aceh; the Jlantah Dam in Karanganyar, Central Java; and the Sidan Dam in Gianyar, Bali.
“Today we inaugurate five dams representing a state investment of around IDR 9.79 trillion,” President Prabowo said, as quoted by infopublik.id.
He emphasized that dam construction is a long-term investment that requires time, funding, and cross-government commitment to deliver benefits to the community. The Meninting Dam, for example, began construction in 2019 and was completed this year.
President Prabowo expressed appreciation to Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and the Ministry of Public Works for continuing dam construction as part of Indonesia’s ongoing development.
He also acknowledged the contributions of previous leaders who initiated and advanced infrastructure projects.
“I am grateful to inaugurate these dams, but my predecessors all played a role. This is a symbol of hard work and unity. Nation-building is not achieved in one or two years, but through decades of struggle and perseverance,” he said.
The President stressed that infrastructure development is crucial for boosting agricultural productivity and improving public welfare. He urged relevant agencies to manage and maintain the dams professionally to ensure water reaches farmers.
“Farmers are food producers. Without food, there is no nation. Every rupiah of public investment must benefit the people,” he said.
President Prabowo also called on Indonesians to maintain unity and prioritize national interests. He reminded the public that progress and prosperity can only be achieved through solidarity across regions, ethnicities, and religions.
“I always remind the nation: think for the people, think for the nation, think for the good of all. A great nation is one that remains united and is not divided by group interests, envy, or suspicion,” he said.
The inauguration of the five dams reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening water resource infrastructure, which plays a strategic role in supporting food security, providing raw water, controlling floods, and developing clean energy.
The dams are expected to deliver significant benefits to communities by increasing agricultural productivity, ensuring water availability, and reinforcing the foundation for sustainable development. ***
