Deputy Minister Urges Central-Regional Collaboration to Tame Inflation

KBRN, Jakarta: Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Akhmad Wiyagus, underscored the critical importance of collaboration between the central government and regional administrations in managing inflation, an issue that President Prabowo Subianto has given special attention.

Wiyagus noted that Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has consistently monitored inflation developments to ensure price stability.

“The success of inflation control is highly dependent on synergy between the central and regional authorities,” Wiyagus said in a press statement in Jakarta on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

He revealed that the Minister of Home Affairs has regularly held monitoring meetings on inflation control since 2022, a mechanism that has earned appreciation from President Prabowo.

“Even President Prabowo, during the Cabinet Plenary Meeting marking the first year of his administration, gave his appreciation to all of us,” Wiyagus said. “It can be said that Indonesia’s inflation control mechanism is not found in any other country. This reflects the importance of cooperation in resolving national issues.”

According to Wiyagus, cross-sector collaboration is a key strength in ensuring the availability of food commodities while maintaining price stability and public purchasing power.

He also emphasized the role of local administrations in ensuring the success of various national strategic programs, such as the Red and White Village/Sub-district Cooperatives, Free Nutritious Meals, Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools), and infrastructure development.

Local administrations were reminded to remain vigilant against potential food price increases ahead of the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays.

Wiyagus noted that this period is always accompanied by rising demand for food commodities, requiring prompt and appropriate intervention measures.

Previously, President Prabowo Subianto had praised the inflation control mechanism as a major innovation in national economic governance.

During the 2024 Inflation Control Coordination Meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs on December 9, 2024, President Prabowo stressed the importance of continuing the mechanism.

“I ask for this mechanism to be continued. Minister of Home Affairs, please proceed with this,” President Prabowo said. He also emphasized that the key to future inflation control is food self-sufficiency in the broadest sense, encouraging this concept to be realized down to the district and sub-district levels.

“The key, once again, is self-sufficiency. Food self-sufficiency in the broadest sense. From the past, we have been taught that every village must have a food barn,” President Prabowo said. (Naura Sofia/Ed. Lasti Martina)
