KBRN, Makassar: The Indonesian Government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), is intensifying its commitment to achieving the net-zero emission target by 2060 or even earlier.

This commitment is reflected in various efforts to accelerate the energy transition and optimize the country’s renewable energy potential, particularly in regions like Sulawesi, which has vast potential in solar, hydro, wind, and geothermal energy.

The ministry stated that one of the measures taken is the development of an energy transition roadmap, focusing on the large-scale expansion of renewable energy, especially solar, hydro, wind, and geothermal power, while promoting the utilization of significant potential across Indonesia.

The Director of Various New and Renewable Energy at the Directorate General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Andriah Feby Misna, stated that Sulawesi plays a crucial role in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition.

During her remarks at the Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) 2025 in Makassar, Wednesday (10/29/2025), Andriah Feby conveyed that the electricity system in Sulawesi currently contributes 2.14 gigawatts, with hydropower and wind energy as the main contributors to the region’s renewable energy mix.

“Sulawesi plays an important role in Indonesia’s energy transition, with renewable energy contributing 2.14 gigawatts to the island’s power system,” Andriah Feby stated.

According to Andriah Feby, with its abundant potential, the government continues to promote the utilization of renewable energy in Sulawesi to support the decarbonization of the power system and the industrial sector.

She said this effort is supported by the development of power networks and the PLN Smart Grids project in the region, which will make Sulawesi a strategic area to showcase the contribution of renewable energy at the national level.
