RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Culture has officially chosen 20 cinematic projects under the 2026 Heroic Narrative Film Production Program to bring lesser-known historical figures and pivotal national epochs to the screen.
Comprising seven feature films and 13 short films, the curated selection focuses on critical events between 1945 and 1950, spanning armed resistance, diplomatic negotiations, underground press movements, and regional community struggles.
Speaking at the contract signing ceremony in Jakarta on Thursday, October 1, 2026, Culture Minister Fadli Zon highlighted the initiative's role in revitalizing national historical literacy through diverse creative perspectives.
"From the selected works, we can see a diversity of historical events, rich concepts, featured figures, narrative approaches, and varied backgrounds among the involved filmmakers," Minister Fadli said on Thursday, October 1, as quoted by Antara.
Out of 143 initial submissions, the winning proposals underwent rigorous pitching, jury deliberation, and historical research phases. The feature film lineup includes biographical and historical titles such as Hoegeng: Yang Ada Tinggal Nama, Rengasdengklok, Barisan Penghibur, Kapal Selam Kalibayam, Sakura di Telawang, Rai, and Pintu Tertutup.
The short film category features titles including Seriboe Soedirman, Jam 7 Pagi (Makassar, 1947), Operasi Malino: Lembar yang Hilang, and Suara Republik.
The Ministry expects the completed productions to be screened in commercial theaters, educational institutions, digital platforms, and international film festivals to bolster the national film ecosystem and reinforce collective memory. ***
