Malaysia–Indonesia Horror Collaboration Khadam Holds Gala Premiere in Jakarta

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Malaysia–Indonesia horror film Khadam held its gala premiere at CGV Grand Indonesia, Jakarta on Monday, September 14, 2026. The movie will be released simultaneously in Indonesian cinemas starting Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

The premiere was attended by the cast and filmmakers, including producers Ahmad Izham Omar and Lina Tan, as well as lead actress Aghniny Haque. Indonesian representatives Charles Gozali of MAGMA Entertainment and Tony Ramesh of VMS Studio were also present.

Khadam is a co-production between Malaysian production houses Red Communications and Komet Productions, and Indonesian companies MAGMA Entertainment and VMS Studio. The film is directed by Shamyl Othman from a screenplay by Fariza Azlina.

The collaboration is further supported by partners from several countries, including Hong Kong and China’s Sil-Metropole Organisation, India’s Applause Entertainment, and Malaysia’s Golden Screen Cinemas and Primeworks Studios.

The film draws on the folklore of the Saka belief in Malaysia, presenting the Khadam as a supernatural inherited entity that can turn on its human host and seize control.

In the story, a figure once regarded as a guardian becomes the source of terror. The entity rebels, assumes the appearance of its owner, and attempts to take over every aspect of their life.

Aghniny Haque plays Melor, a mute mother living in isolation in the forest with her two children. After her mother’s death, Melor inherits the family’s Khadam, which subsequently threatens her family.

The terror intensifies when the Khadam appears in Melor’s likeness and begins to usurp her children’s affection. Melor fights to protect her family using sign language, maternal instinct, and physical resilience.

Before its Indonesian release, Khadam premiered in Malaysia on June 11, 2026, where it reportedly grossed more than USD 1.3 million at the box office. The film has also been screened in Cambodia and Singapore. Screenings in Hong Kong and Macau are scheduled for October 2026.

Ahmad Izham Omar, founder of Komet Productions and the film’s executive producer and producer, said the collaboration with Indonesia was a significant experience in making Khadam. He believes the story has universal appeal for audiences across countries.

“We are very fortunate to work with our friends from Indonesia on Khadam. The story of Khadam is universal, and we are very proud to bring this collaborative film to Indonesian cinemas,” said Izham at CGV Grand Indonesia, Jakarta, on Monday, September 14, 2026.

Meanwhile, MAGMA Entertainment executive producer, Charles Gozali, said cross-border collaborations should continue to be developed in the film industry. He noted that such partnerships can yield more diverse and fresh works.

“As Indonesia’s representative in this production, we are very happy to support such an ambitious horror film. I think there need to be more cross-country collaborations like ‘Khadam’ for an increasingly fresh film industry,” said Charles.
