RRI.CO.ID, Cannes - The Indonesian film industry has marked a milestone in its technological evolution with the global debut of Bisikan Desa Gringsing (Whispers of Gringsing Village), an Indonesian mystery-horror feature that leverages cutting-edge virtual production technology.

The upcoming film holds the distinction of being Indonesia’s first full-length horror production to utilize a high-resolution LED volumetric stage. This modern cinematic tool enables filmmakers to create bone-chilling, photorealistic digital environments in real-time, providing the crew with immaculate camera precision when capturing everything from foggy village pathways to supernatural entities manifesting against an ominous rural backdrop.

Production houses Mandela Pictures and Oceanus Media Global (OMG Studios) utilized the highly advanced studio facilities at Iskandar Malaysia Studios (IMS) to shoot the film.

"Virtual production isn't just technology. It's a new creative language for Southeast Asian storytelling. We're proud to be pioneering its use in Indonesian horror films with our partners," OMG Studios CEO Nick GC Tan stated in a press release, as quoted by Antara.

Directed by Ivander Tedjasukmana, the project is a collaborative international co-production spanning Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. The venture secured robust incentive backing from the governments of all three participating nations.

In Malaysia, the project benefited from the Film in Malaysia Incentive Plus (FIMI+) program, which is managed by the Studios Film Office (SFO). Singapore’s involvement was driven and supported by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), while the Indonesian side received direct support from the Indonesian Ministry of Culture.

Prominent actress Aghniny Haque stars as Hesti, the central protagonist of the film. The plot follows Hesti's harrowing journey as she searches for her missing father, only to become trapped in a web of terror spun by restless spirits. The production boasts a stellar supporting cast, including veteran actors Surya Saputra and Kiki Narendra, alongside acclaimed actresses Mian Tiara and Fatmah Nahdi.

The studios capitalized on the high-profile backdrop of the 2026 Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival to officially unveil the film's first five production stills to the global market.

Following its international industry showcase in France, the studios are eyeing a theatrical release in Indonesian cinemas within the 2026 calendar year. The distribution strategy will subsequently expand across Southeast Asia to Malaysia and Singapore, before heading further abroad to audiences in Turkey and Azerbaijan. ***
