RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Jakarta’s annual Flora and Fauna Exhibition (FLONA) 2026 has become a stage for students from the Thousand Islands, where they brought forward eco-friendly creations and cultural flair to captivate visitors at Lapangan Banteng Park.
Fifteen students were invited to present recycled fashion and pantomime performances, blending environmental awareness with artistic expression.
“This is part of our effort to give students space to showcase their creativity and talent,” Head of Administration at the Thousand Islands Education Sub-Agency, Bastian, said on Sunday, September 14, as quoted by Antara.
The recycled costumes, crafted from waste materials, drew attention for their ingenuity, while the pantomime acts added a lively touch to the exhibition. Bastian emphasized that beyond entertainment, the event offered students valuable experience performing in public and building confidence.
The Thousand Islands pavilion also highlighted local culinary heritage. Pulau Panggang’s signature dishes, prepared under community guidance, were served free to visitors. According to Bastian, introducing these specialties helps promote local small businesses and strengthens the islands' economy.
Running from August 28 to September 28, FLONA 2026 adopts the theme of Jakarta as a “growing space” that unites biodiversity and local wisdom from across Indonesia.
The Thousand Islands pavilion was designed as a visual and ecological journey, evoking the landscapes of archipelagos, Maluku, and Nusa Tenggara through semi-arid savanna settings, xerophytic vegetation, and exotic island scenery. ***
