The Karya Raya 2026 Exhibition, headlined under the theme Garden of Kindness: Where Creativity Grows on You, opened on Friday at the Jakarta Library in Central Jakarta. The multi-week exhibition runs from September 11 through October 2, 2026, leading up to the main Karya Raya Celebration on October 3 at the Taman Ismail Marzuki Grand Theater.
Visitors to the exhibition can browse young authors' publications at the newly established Karya Raya Corner inside the library. The 2026 opening also introduced Ruang Bertumbuh (Space to Grow), a joint book project created through a partnership between Karya Raya and the Jakarta Library.
The volume of youth-created books hosted by Karya Raya has expanded consistently over recent years, growing from 638 books in 2023 to 1,081 books in 2024, 1,870 books in 2025, and reaching 2,053 books in 2026.
Organizers and co-creators emphasized that giving young writers a public audience transforms how children view their own ideas and creative potential. Karya Raya Co-Founder Ernest explained the core purpose of putting young authors' works into public library spaces during the opening ceremony.
"We want children to feel that their work has meaning, when a child writes, and their writing touches someone else, that child begins to see themselves as a writer. This is essential, because that is where children are born who will continue to create," Ernest said during the opening of the Karya Raya 2026 Exhibition at the Jakarta Library on Friday, September 11, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
Ernest noted that the growing number of published titles represents individual children discovering their creative identity rather than simple metrics.
"In our view, it is not about the number, What matters is that 2,053 new creators, children who found the creator identity within themselves, emerged this year," Ernest added regarding the 2,053 books published in 2026. ***
