RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Amid busy daily routines, spending time in nature can be a simple way to give the body and mind a much-needed break. There is no need to travel far or take part in strenuous activities; taking a walk in a park, sitting under a tree, or simply enjoying a green environment can help ease feelings of fatigue.

These simple activities are not only enjoyable but are also associated with mental and physical well-being. Several studies have found that interacting with nature can provide various benefits for overall health and well-being.

1. Nature Can Help Reduce Stress

One reason spending time in nature can feel calming is that natural environments provide an opportunity to temporarily step away from everyday routines. A 2025 study by Azizunnisa on contact with nature suggests that interacting with natural environments can help minimize mild stress and have a positive impact on mental well-being.

Activities such as walking in natural surroundings, camping, or simply enjoying a forest environment can be simple ways to connect with nature. They also provide an opportunity to shift attention away from the various thoughts and concerns occupying the mind.

2. You Do Not Have to Go Far

Enjoying nature does not necessarily mean traveling to the mountains or visiting a distant tourist destination. Spending time in a city park, observing trees in the neighborhood, taking care of houseplants, or walking through a green area can also be forms of interaction with nature.

Research published by Stott and team in 2024 explains that human interaction with nature can occur both directly and indirectly. It can range from visiting parks and engaging in outdoor activities to caring for plants or simply enjoying views of nature from indoors.

Their review found that interacting with nature is associated with better mental health. Such interactions may also help reduce stress and anxiety while improving mood.

3. A Break from Daily Routines

In everyday life, people often spend considerable amounts of time in front of screens while working, studying, or handling various tasks. Spending time in a more natural environment can provide an opportunity to pause and shift attention toward the world around us.

For example, taking a leisurely walk in a park while enjoying the fresh air and surrounding scenery can be a simple way to give the body and mind time to rest. It does not have to take a long time; what matters is creating an opportunity to step away from daily routines for a while.

Interacting with nature is associated with lower stress and a more positive state of mind. Therefore, enjoying nature does not always require a long trip. A nearby park, trees along the neighborhood streets, or even plants at home can provide a simple space to refresh the mind.
