Kamila Andini’s Film Selected for Busan International Film Festival 2026

RRI.CO.ID, Singaraja - Renowned Indonesian Director Kamila Andini’s latest feature film, Empat Musim Pertiwi (Four Seasons of Pertiwi), has been officially selected for the prestigious Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2026, marking another milestone for national cinema on the global stage.

Starring Putri Marino alongside Arya Saloka and veteran actress Christine Hakim, the film will screen under BIFF's A Window on Asian Cinema program. The narrative centers on Pertiwi (played by Marino), a woman returning to her hometown after serving a 20-year prison sentence for killing a man who attempted to rape her.

Rather than offering immediate solace, her return forces her to confront lingering trauma, fractured family dynamics, and persistent social stigma regarding former convicts. Prior to its BIFF screening, Empat Musim Pertiwi will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2026 this month before its scheduled nationwide theatrical release across Indonesian cinemas on October 8, 2026.

Film critics and industry observers noted that the selection underscores the growing global footprint of Indonesian cinema, particularly narratives addressing gender-based violence, social rehabilitation, and female resilience.

Kamila Andini framed the story around the enduring social consequences that follow individuals long after legal sentences conclude. "Freedom for Pertiwi is not the end of her struggle, but rather the beginning of a long process to find her place in society once again," she noted in statements regarding the film's thematic core.
