RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia's Minister of Creative Economy and Head of the Creative Economy Agency, Teuku Riefky Harsya, has commended music streaming platform Spotify for strengthening Indonesia’s music ecosystem through an inclusive and transparent system while expanding global market access for Indonesian musicians.

Speaking at the Spotify Loud & Clear Indonesia event in Jakarta on Thursday, June 25, 2026, Riefky said streaming platforms have become an important medium for introducing Indonesian music to international audiences while promoting the nation’s culture on the global stage.

“When Indonesian songs are played in Malaysia, the United States, and many other countries, music does more than entertain—it introduces Indonesia’s stories, culture, and identity to the world. This is the power of the creative economy in expanding Indonesia’s global influence,” Riefky said in an official statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.

He said the ministry continues to encourage local talents to compete in regional and global markets. According to him, the creative economy sector currently employs around 27.4 million people, with more than half of them belonging to Generation Z and the millennial generation.

Riefky noted that streaming platforms have broadened access to the music industry while providing equal opportunities for musicians from across Indonesia to reach wider audiences.

“Streaming platforms have democratized access to the music industry. Today, musicians from all corners of Indonesia have equal opportunities to gain wider recognition. Therefore, collaboration among the government, the creative industry, and creators is key to building a fair, sustainable music ecosystem that generates economic value for its stakeholders,” he said.

Meanwhile, Spotify Southeast Asia Managing Director, Gustav Back, said Indonesian artists’ music was discovered more than 6.3 billion times by new listeners on Spotify throughout 2025. Royalties earned by Indonesian musicians through the platform also increased by more than 16 percent compared with the previous year, with around 60 percent generated from listeners outside Indonesia.

“Indonesian music continues to experience remarkable growth among listeners both at home and abroad, including in the United States, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom. Spotify is committed to creating opportunities for musicians to be discovered by new listeners and to build communities of fans,” Gustav said.

Spotify’s data also showed that 80 percent of the songs featured in the Spotify Indonesia Daily Top 50 chart throughout 2025 were works by Indonesian artists. According to the Ministry of Creative Economy, the achievement reflects strong public appreciation for local music while reinforcing the competitiveness of Indonesia’s music industry in the global market.
