RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The historic resurgence of Indonesian football is set to receive a cinematic tribute as Fremantle Indonesia and Beach House Pictures prepare to release “The Longest Wait: The Dream”. Moving beyond the scorelines and stadium cheers, this upcoming documentary shifts the focus toward the raw human spirit driving the Garuda squad as they navigate their most significant World Cup qualifying campaign in decades.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, April 29, 2026, Fremantle Indonesia Executive Producer, Sakti Parantean, emphasized that the film aims to peel back the layers of professional sports.

"What we want to show in this film is not just the results, but the human side of the players who are members of the national team," explained Sakti, as quoted by Antara.

He noted that the project was born out of a desire to capture the golden momentum of the squad’s historic advancement to the third round of the 2026 Asian Zone World Cup qualifiers. This feat has reignited a national dream that has remained dormant since the 1938 tournament in France.

The documentary provides a comprehensive look at the ecosystem supporting the players, featuring the strategic minds of the coaching staff and the unwavering militancy of the fans. While much of the team’s journey through the third and fourth qualifying rounds has played out in the public eye, Sakti revealed that many untold stories and intricate twists remain hidden.

"For this reason, this film is here to tell the story of the struggle and the dreams in which there is certainly hope for the national team that will not go out to appear on the highest stage," he added.

National team defender Shayne Pattynama, who features in the film, described the production as a deeply meaningful life experience. He highlighted the authentic approach taken by the filmmakers, which allowed players to open up in ways they rarely do in traditional media.

"The key is to build trust and comfort so that the subjects get used to the presence of cameras around them. That way, they can speak honestly without feeling pressured or forced," said Shayne.

The anticipation for the film is palpable, not just among the passionate supporters but within the locker room itself. Shayne admitted he is as eager as the fans to see the final cut. "As I said, I haven't seen it (in its entirety) myself, so I'm very, very excited."

The Longest Wait: The Dream is scheduled for a simultaneous nationwide release in Indonesian cinemas on June 18, 2026. The film offers a definitive look at the passion and perseverance behind Indonesia's quest for global footballing glory. ***
