RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Ki Ageng Ganjur, the acclaimed religious acculturation music group from Yogyakarta, is set to embark on an international cultural roadshow to Uzbekistan from April 27 to May 5, 2026. Organized in collaboration with the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Tashkent, the tour aims to strengthen diplomatic ties and promote Indonesian heritage through the universal language of music.

The group is scheduled for two major performances. On April 29, they will take the stage at the Eternal City within the Silk Road Complex in Samarkand. Following this, they will represent Indonesia at the prestigious International Folklore Festival Boysun Bahori in the Surkhandarya region.

Indonesian Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Ruhaini Dzuhayatin, highlighted the significance of the festival, which attracts over 200 folklore communities from around the world. The event serves as a global platform for ethnic music, traditional costumes, and cultural exchange.

“This is a strategic momentum to introduce the cultural richness of the Archipelago to the world community,” Ruhaini said in an official release received in Jakarta on Friday, April 24, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

The leader of Ki Ageng Ganjur, Al-Zastrouw, explained that the roadshow is part of a broader effort to foster brotherhood between nations. The group’s performances are designed as a medium for cross-cultural and interfaith dialogue, blending traditional Indonesian instruments with modern genres.

“The roadshow is an effort to strengthen brotherhood between nations through music as a medium for cross-cultural and interfaith dialogue,” Al-Zastrouw remarked.

The group’s repertoire for the tour includes original compositions such as Pasar Klewer, Night at Murcia, and Spirit of Peace, alongside reinterpretations of international classics like Michael Jackson’s Heal the World and Scorpions’ Wind of Change. These tracks will feature a unique fusion of gamelan, flute, and kendang with modern instrumentation.

Beyond the concert stage, Ki Ageng Ganjur will undertake a cultural pilgrimage to several of Uzbekistan’s most significant historical sites. Their itinerary includes a visit to the Imam Bukhari complex in Samarkand, as well as various museums and cultural centers in Termez and Tashkent. ***
