RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - To honor the centenary of literary giant Pramoedya Ananta Toer, Falcon Pictures has officially released a deeper, more expansive cut of the cinematic masterpiece Bumi Manusia, Indonesian historical drama series. Titled "Bumi Manusia Extended," this new version reimagines the story of Minke, Annelies, and Nyai Ontosoroh into a six-part format, offering a more complete and profound exploration of the original novel's universe.

The series is set to become a cultural highlight for the Lebaran 2026 holiday season, streaming exclusively on the OTT platform KlikFilm.

Director Hanung Bramantyo explained that the extended version is not simply about adding minutes to the runtime; it is an opportunity to present a more holistic vision of the complex relationships and colonial tensions depicted in the book.

“From the beginning, I realized that Bumi Manusia is a vast universe. In this extended version, we can present details of relationships, identity struggles, and the tensions of colonialism that previously had to be condensed. This is not just additional duration, but a deepening of feeling,” said Hanung on Thursday, March 5, as quoted by Antara.

The six-part format allows scenes that were previously cut to find their space, enriching the socio-political layers that serve as the soul of Pramoedya’s work. Dialogues are more intimate, and the emotional stakes are significantly heightened.

The family of Pramoedya Ananta Toer has warmly welcomed the release, viewing the episodic format as a modern bridge to connect the author's legacy with younger audiences.

“The family sees this as an effort to keep the flame of Father’s work alive and relevant to reach the younger generation. Hopefully, through this serial format, more people will re-read his novels and understand the great ideas about humanity, justice, and self-esteem,” said Astuti Ananta Toer, representing the family.

KlikFilm Director Frederica noted that the release is a tribute to the "Century of Pram" celebrations. The platform aims to provide content that offers both entertainment and spiritual enrichment during the festive Lebaran period.

“We believe a work as great as Bumi Manusia has a soul that is not enough to be told in just one format. This extended version provides a wider space for contemplation for the audience to dive into Pramoedya’s thoughts,” Frederica added. ***
