RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Indonesia's Foreign Minister, Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir, affirmed his commitment to continuing the foreign policy pursued by the previous administration while following the directives of President Prabowo Subianto.
“Our mandate comes from the Constitution, and this has been carried out very well by Sugiono. Of course, we will continue the good work that has been done by Sugiono,” Arrmanatha said after being inaugurated as Foreign Minister by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
Arrmanatha said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesia’s foreign policy have a clear mandate as stipulated in the Constitution. He said the consistency of Indonesia’s foreign policy from year to year is one reflection of the country’s stability.
He also affirmed that the implementation of foreign policy would continue to follow the President’s directives, as the mandate for foreign policy rests with the President. Regarding Indonesia’s candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the 2029–2030 term, Arrmanatha said the move demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to actively contributing to a safer and more stable world.
“This once again demonstrates Indonesia’s commitment to ensuring active participation in creating a safer and more stable world, and it also reflects our belief in the importance of multilateralism,” Minister Arrmanatha said.
Arrmanatha, who previously served as Vice Foreign Minister, was officially inaugurated as Foreign Minister by President Prabowo Subianto, replacing Sugiono. He was appointed based on Presidential Decree No. 105/P of 2026 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of the 2024–2029 Red and White Cabinet, issued by President Prabowo Subianto on September 30, 2026.
On the same occasion, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Sugiono, who previously served as Foreign Minister, said there would not be many changes to the direction of Indonesia’s foreign policy.
“I think he already understands that, and I am confident that under his leadership as Foreign Minister, the face of our diplomacy will improve further,” Sugiono said.
