Sugiono: Humanitarian Aid and Ceasefire Priorities in Gaza

RRI.CO.ID, New York – Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono emphasized the importance of ensuring that peace efforts for Palestine deliver tangible changes for the people, particularly through the delivery of humanitarian aid, a ceasefire, and an end to killings in Gaza.

Sugiono made the statement at the Ministerial Coordination Meeting of the Group of Eight Arab and Islamic Countries, attended by Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Türkiye, and Pakistan in New York, United States, on Sunday, September 21, 2026.

“We are committed to establishing peace, but the Palestinian people have yet to see any real change. In the short term, what they need is the flow of humanitarian aid, a ceasefire, and an end to the killings in Gaza,” he stressed.

He said the eight member countries of the Group of Eight need to deliver a strong and unified message to maintain their collective push for peace in Palestine. “We must send a strong message. We want to see that our efforts are truly producing progress and change for the Palestinian people,” he said.

Sugiono added that Indonesia would continue engaging with various partners to advance the peace process in Palestine. He said the active participation of the Palestinian people is one of the key aspects needed to achieve sustainable peace.

The ministerial meeting was a continuation of coordination among the eight Arab and Islamic countries, which was initiated during the High-Level Week of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in 2025 to seek concrete steps toward resolving the Palestinian issue.

The coordination has since been further strengthened through the involvement of various partners, including the United States, to maintain diplomatic momentum and promote joint efforts toward peace in Gaza.
