Indonesia Reaffirms Commitment to Advance Palestine Issue in BRICS Summit

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the Palestine issue in global diplomacy through the BRICS forum, making it a key focus at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India.
Special Staff to the Foreign Affairs Minister for Strengthening Multilateral Issue Policy, Tri Tharyat, said Indonesia’s position remains unchanged, continuing to champion Palestinian independence and rights across international forums.
“In my view, Palestine is non-negotiable; we will keep fighting for it in various forums. All BRICS member states agree on the steps that must be taken together,” said Tri during a press conference in the Palapa Room at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Jakarta on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
Tri said BRICS member states agreed on joint measures to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Palestine, with a particular focus on ensuring the protection of civilians from the impact of violence. “Especially to guarantee our brothers and sisters, particularly in Gaza, are no longer victims of the brutality of the Israeli military,” he said.
Beyond humanitarian concerns, Indonesia pushed for attention to religious rights and civilian territorial issues in the BRICS Summit’s final document. Indonesia also expressed serious concern over the illegal expansion of territory in Palestine.
“We conveyed very serious concern regarding illegal territorial expansion in Palestine. We also urged full access for our brothers and sisters in Palestine to carry out their religious obligations,” said Tri.
He acknowledged that some differences of view exist among certain countries on Middle East and North Africa issues, but stressed these did not prevent consensus on Palestine at the BRICS Summit.
“Although there are differences of perspective among some countries, this does not diminish the agreements reached at the Summit. The international community must come together to address the situation in Palestine, particularly in Gaza,” he said.
The Summit’s outcomes were encapsulated in the New Delhi Declaration, comprising 140 paragraphs covering issues including reform of international financial institutions, energy, and food.
Tri assured that the Foreign Affairs Ministry would ensure the Summit’s results are implemented through inter-ministerial and inter-agency coordination, so BRICS agreements can be applied at the national level.
“At the national level, we will move quickly. The Foreign Affairs Ministry has a coordination mechanism among ministries and agencies in the context of BRICS,” he said.
He explained that this coordination mechanism involves the National BRICS Team, which serves as the government’s platform for coordinating and operationalizing various BRICS cooperation outcomes. (Annaila Azzahra-EN)
