RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto hosted the United States Ambassador to ASEAN, Kevin Kim, at his private residence in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, to discuss bilateral cooperation and regional stability.

Ambassador Kim stands as the senior-most US government official representing Washington in Jakarta, as the US government has yet to designate a definitive ambassador to Indonesia. Accompanied by US Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to ASEAN Joy M. Sakurai, the diplomatic delegation met with President Prabowo alongside Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The high-level meeting focused on deepening economic and security partnerships grounded in mutual respect and equal partnership, while bolstering ASEAN regional stability. The talks precede President Prabowo's anticipated international diplomacy schedule later this month, which includes a planned visit to New York for the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in late September.

Cabinet officials described the bilateral discussions as warm and constructive, emphasizing that joint initiatives aim to solidify long-term strategic alignment between Indonesia and the United States across bilateral and multilateral channels.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya outlined the core objectives discussed during the Hambalang summit. "The meeting addressed various efforts to enhance cooperation between the two nations, including driving regional cooperation and stability," he said to reporters on Saturday, September 5, 2026, as quoted by Antara.

He emphasized the foundational diplomatic principles guiding the bilateral relationship. "The discussions aimed at strengthening the bonds between the two countries based on principles of mutual respect and equal partnership," the Cabinet Secretary added.

Teddy further highlighted the expected long-term outcomes of the high-level engagement for regional development.

"This meeting is expected to further strengthen the foundation of Indonesia-United States relations, it serves to drive closer, constructive, and mutually beneficial cooperation, both bilaterally and in supporting peace, stability, and progress across the region," Teddy noted. ***
