President Prabowo Urges Swift Implementation of Indonesia–EAEU FTA

RRI.CO.ID, Vladivostok - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called for the immediate enforcement of the Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (Indonesia‑EAEU FTA), urging member states to finalize their internal procedures so the pact can take effect without delay.

Signed in St. Petersburg on December 21, 2025, the agreement involves Indonesia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and the Eurasian Economic Commission.

“Indonesia wants this agreement to be applied as soon as the exchange of ratification documents allows. I urge all EAEU members to complete their internal processes so we can benefit from it quickly,” President Prabowo said during the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The President stressed Indonesia’s commitment, noting that parliamentary approval has been secured and a Presidential Regulation was issued in July 2026. He encouraged Indonesian business delegates at the forum to leverage the FTA for their first shipments, buyer agreements, logistics arrangements, and payment mechanisms.

The trade pact eliminates or reduces tariffs on 11,882 tariff lines—covering more than 90 percent of traded goods. President Prabowo emphasized that tariff removal must be implemented swiftly to enable immediate business transactions.

“When the tariff schedule takes effect, goods, trade routes, and contracts must already be in place. This forum should serve as a marketplace for the agreement,” he said.

Highlighting Indonesia’s large population, Prabowo described the country as a promising market. The FTA, he added, opens access for Indonesian producers to five Eurasian markets while granting Eurasian producers entry to more than 290 million Indonesian consumers. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
