RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The governments of Russia and the United States have expressed condolences and solidarity with Indonesia following the earthquake that struck East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Saturday morning, August 15, 2026. Both nations conveyed sympathy to communities affected by the disaster.

The Russian Embassy in Jakarta offered condolences over the loss of life and damage caused by the quake. “We extend our deepest sympathy to the families and relatives of the victims. We hope life in the affected areas will soon return to normal.," it said in a statement to RRI on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Indonesia also issued a message of condolence to those who lost loved ones. “We express our deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones due to the devastating earthquake and its impact in NTT,” the statement read.

The U.S. also urged residents to remain cautious and alert for possible aftershocks. “Our prayers and sympathy are with the injured and all communities affected by this disaster."

The death toll from the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in Flores continues to rise. As of Sunday, August 16, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. local time, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) confirmed 53 fatalities, up from 51 earlier in the day.

Local media reported that Manggarai Regency recorded the highest number of deaths with 25, followed by East Manggarai with 20. The Indonesian government has extended its deepest condolences to all communities affected by the disaster. (Diffa Sephiawardhani)
