RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Tokyo dispatched an emergency response team to Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, on Saturday, August 1, 2026, to distribute direct logisitical assistance to Indonesian citizens (WNI) affected by a recent earthquake.
Led by First Secretary of the Consular Protocol Function Hernawan Bagaskoro Abid, the response team delivered essential supplies, including drinking water, instant noodles, rice, and medicine, to affected Indonesian communities in Uki City and Uto City. The relief effort was conducted in collaboration with the Indonesian Student Association (PPI) in Kumamoto and local community group Fumaku.
Following the earthquake that struck Kumamoto on July 28, 2026, diplomatic missions in Japan have been coordinating with local authorities and community leaders to monitor conditions.
While daily public activities are gradually resuming, local logistics and public infrastructure remain constrained, with retail purchases of basic goods still subject to limitations. KBRI Tokyo and KJRI Osaka continue to advise citizens to remain vigilant for aftershocks and adhere to instructions from local Japanese authorities.
Emergency hotlines have been activated for citizens requiring urgent support at +81-80-3506-8612 and +81-80-4940-7419 and the KJRI Osaka hotline +81-80-3113-1003.
Indonesian diplomatic leadership in Japan reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of Indonesian nationals during natural disasters abroad. Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir confirmed the ongoing mobilization of relief operations across shelter locations in the prefecture.
"The KBRI Tokyo Emergency Response Team continues to monitor the condition of Indonesian citizens in Kumamoto and distribute direct assistance to those in need," Ambassador Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir in an official release on Sunday, August 2, 2026, as quoted by Antara.
