RRI.CO.ID, Manila — Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono reaffirmed Indonesia's commitment to supporting the Palestinian people's struggle for statehood. He made the statement during a meeting with Palestinian Minister of Social Development Samah Hamad on the sidelines of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM) and related meetings in Manila, the Philippines, on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.
He said Indonesia's support for Palestine has long been a cornerstone of the country's foreign policy and continues to enjoy broad support from the Indonesian people. "Our support is demonstrated not only through our consistent political and diplomatic backing, but also through various forms of humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people," the Minister said in a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday, July 25, 2026.
During the meeting, which took place on July 22, Samah Hamad briefed Sugiono on the latest developments and the severe challenges facing the Palestinian people amid the ongoing conflict. She also expressed her sincere appreciation for the solidarity and humanitarian assistance provided by both the Indonesian government and the Indonesian people.
Hamad said humanitarian aid initiated by Indonesian civil society organizations and the private sector has made an important contribution to supporting Palestinians. However, she expressed hope that future assistance would be coordinated with the Palestinian Authority to ensure it reaches those most in need and delivers greater benefits to the Palestinian people.
She also expressed hope that Indonesia would continue to play a strategic role in supporting Palestine in various international forums, including by advocating for the opening of humanitarian access to allow aid currently being held up to reach those in need.
In response, Sugiono reaffirmed that Indonesia remains committed not only to providing humanitarian assistance but also to supporting capacity-building for the Palestinian Authority and the reconstruction of Gaza.
"Support for strengthening the capacity of the Palestinian Authority and for the reconstruction of Gaza complements the humanitarian assistance Indonesia has provided to Palestine. This reflects Indonesia's tangible commitment as a partner of Palestine," he said.
