RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – The Government of Indonesia has condemned the attacks on commercial vessels sailing in international waters in the Red Sea, saying they violate international law and endanger maritime safety.

Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the attacks violate the principle of freedom of navigation and pose a threat to international trade and regional stability.

"These actions violate international law, including the principle of freedom of navigation, and endanger maritime safety, international trade, and regional stability," the ministry said in a statement posted on its official X account on Friday (July 24, 2026).

Indonesia also called on all parties to exercise restraint, avoid actions that could further escalate tensions, and respect international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

"Indonesia calls on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could further escalate the situation," the ministry said.

Regarding the conflict in Yemen, Indonesia reaffirmed its support for an inclusive political settlement under the facilitation of the United Nations (UN).

"With regard to the conflict in Yemen, Indonesia reiterates its support for an inclusive, Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned political process under UN facilitation, while respecting Yemen's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity," the ministry said.

Earlier, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez condemned the attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea, saying such acts are unjustifiable as they threaten the safety of seafarers, maritime security, and global supply chains.

Dominguez also stressed that seafarers are civilians performing essential work that supports the global economy. He urged ship operators to conduct comprehensive risk assessments before transiting the area and said the IMO would continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to provide assistance if needed.
